She received her undergraduate degree from California State University San Marcos, and a Masters in applied molecular biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.Shonda currently works in the laboratory of Dr. Jeff Leips, where she investigates immunosenescence in innate immunity using Drosophila melanogaster. Her research aims to identify genes that regulate age-specific immune responses, and characterize their role in age-specific declines in phagocytosis.
